Listening to Brands - Tesla: If you don't have anything good to say...

Image
I selected Tesla.  I have followed Tesla for a while, especially given the many oddities of Elon Musk's internet habits. Tesla tends to be a popular , hip brand, that appeals to a wide range of customers, from young, environmentally-conscious millennials, to wealthier consumers interested in luxury vehicles. Tesla sells electric automobiles. Their value proposition is to p rovide affordable electric vehicles to the modern consumer that compete with traditional vehicles on price, range, and practicality. Currently the largest marketing challenge that Tesla faces is, ironically, themselves, (more specifically Elon Musk). He has a history of generating controversy and saying damaging things over the internet, and has even faced SEC investigation for stock manipulation via his twitter feed. The controversial nature of his internet habits is seen by many as a double-edged sword, both providing the company with "free marketing" at the expense of volatility. A few da...

Marketing in the News: 346 Funerals and an Airliner that Doesn't Fly

Image
Grounded 737 MAX Airliners sit on the ramp in Seattle. I have always been extremely interested in the world of aviation. I am immersed in it daily, and I fully expect a long career in the air. In that world, one of the largest players of the all is the Boeing Aircraft Corporation, the largest aircraft manufacturer in the world. Both times, everyone on board died, for a total of 346 casualties. This airliner has been grounded worldwide, and Boeing is left with more than 400 brand new, unsellable aircraft sitting in a parking lot in Seattle, while changes are made to make the plane safe again. Boeing’s mission is to provide high-quality, efficient jet aircraft to airlines. For an airliner to be viable for mainstream ...

Week 1, About Me

Image
My name is Adam Smith. I am here at Linn-Benton Community College at my next stop on my journey to the pilot seat of a United States Air Force aircraft. One of the main requirements to fly for the USAF is a college degree, because all pilots must be commissioned officers. I chose to major in Business Administration as a compromise between a competitive degree and a degree that would be easier to maintain good grades. This major will come with the benefit of preparing me to better manage a portion of the organizational structure within the military. I am excited to take marketing this term, and I think it will be a class that I call back to for many years to come. I hope I can learn how to effectively communicate my vision to others, as well as make myself into a better leader. I am a passionate photographer and videographer. I have produced video products for the USAF and represented the US Military all across the nation, from Washington, D.C. to Honolulu, Hawaii. Below y...
